Hey there!

Has anyone else seen this?

First i've seen it - backwards compatibility is good.

Read that they are looking to incorporate CEP into it too which would be cool.

Just seen this myself yesterday, which is on of the reasons I stopped by today. May have to install my Diamond edition and stop by the server. its been at least a couple of years.

df mentioned NWN: EE to me the other day and I've just burned about 8 hours on the Beamdog forums to get a feel for what it's about. I'm excited to say the very least.

I had stopped GvM a while back when I got really involved making my own module - which was far too ambitious for one person, though it has a good 10-15 hours of playable material. Anyway, when they pulled the GameSpy support, my NWN hopes faded and I stopped that, too.

This announcement and the things they are planning has me altogether excited again. What's more, I introduced my son and his cousin the other day to it and they love it. I am still interested in building and the ideas about what to do are simmering in my head.

I'd like to work on something, whether it be getting GvM into NWN: EE or find some interested persons and do something original with them. Either way, I want to collaborate on something. Doing it solo is fun, but I'd like to do something that sees the light of day.

Post by: TM5000 on 30 March 2018, 16:14
I just received an email from Beamdog about NWN:EE being released.

The things that really caught my eye were backward compatibility and improved multiplayer which included mention of a friend list. This reminds me of the old Gamespy multiplayer support the game had years ago.

As I recall, players really dropped off after Gamespy gave us the finger.

Has anyone here actually played this yet? I am travelling but when I hit the hotel tonight and get some WiFi, I will download this and check it out!

Very cool, will also check this out!

Does the backward compatibility mean that it could work for the server? And make the graphics look better?

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: Sky on 01 April 2018, 14:25
So I've tested it a bit.

Graphics look a little nicer, which is cool.

When you join to multiplayer you get to see the list of servers available, just like before gamespy shut down. Also a +1 from me. Perhaps this will bring additional players to the mod? :)

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: Arn2148 on 02 April 2018, 11:27
So does this mean that GvM community will be using the Enhanced Edition or has it already made the leap?

+1 from me aswell

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: bad_karma on 09 April 2018, 11:38
Hmm the way I read it was that it is fully compatible with existing nwn, meaning that server will remain unchanged and it's only clients that can opt for enhanced edition? But maybe I'm just whistling dixie..

Reason I would expect it to work like this is that nwn already is not too picky when it comes to client configuration (thinking of stuff you can put in your override dir at will). I would think that nwn enhanced edition behaves like a really nicely configured client, with new game discovery feature (replacing good old gamespy) and beefed graphics, but otherwise fully compatible.

Does somebody know more?

All you have to do is just setup a Gondor vs Mordor mod with beamdog, you can leave everything the same CEP 2.0. I dunno what bugs it would cause. NWN EE is on sale right now for 6.79, cheap as crap. all you have to do is buy EE and merge it over. Why havnt its been done yet?? why keep the old pixilated ugly version where its dead, I log on almost every week to see if anyone is on, its either offline, or dead. I want to play again, and I cant. merge it over so it can be alive again. RIP.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 25 November 2018, 13:26
Thnx for pointing out the sale ... I've just bought the enhanced version on Steam ... will try all kinds of things to get the enhanced feeling eventually to our mod :D
(Need to get the stuff on linux so change for success is pretty low I guess)
But maybe its not that hard at all ... lets hope so

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 04 December 2018, 20:33
Well, I bought the game for extreme low price ... that was nice  :D
Loved the Darkness over Daggerford Campaign
@domingo CC thnx

But ... tried to "upgrade" the module today (in a test environment of-course)
tried different approaches ... unfortunately there seems no way to add all the needed hak files and tlk files. Module will not load.
So I think this is a no go.

Besides even if it will work ... this will force everyone to buy this new enhanced version .... and in my opinion this is also a no go.

My own experience with this new enhanced version:
pro: mega fast loading time!!
cons:
1. don't see the real enhancements ... some slightly smoother graphics, yes  ... but for me its almost a minimal enhanced and greatly the same as the old version.
2. multiplayer: agree with Sky here ... its nice to see other servers ... but .... see above ... will not work I'm afraid.

Unless BeamDog will provide us with more information how to successfully add .tlk and hak files there will be no porting to the Enhanced version at all  :offtheair:

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: Satorial on 10 December 2018, 00:21
This.. this was a heartbreaking post to come across after a long awaited hope for the return of GvM.
I too can agree, there hasn't been much improvement as far as the " Enhancement " goes, but it's put the game back on the map, if anything. Servers i used to play on the original are just littered with randoms. GvM would flourish over on EE. It's the popularity and order over any visual improvements, if you ask me. Like, the server list is back.. that is beyond nostalgic for me, and all i could ask for. But not seeing GvM in that list will suck.

The game really isn't that expensive, and if anyone is still playing the original, it's probably because their servers haven't made the jump yet. There was over 200 people in one server when i first started playing EE. It's really not that expensive, and if nobody can afford the game, give me your Steam.. I will GIFT it to you for Christmas, dammit. I am that determined to get GvM over here. It's one of the top three servers i wanted to see make the move over to EE, so far i have one. The other is in the works, and GvM was my top module. A lot of history in this place.

At the very least, i hope this " No Go " is merely a stalling until it's figured out.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 10 December 2018, 20:57
Hey Satorial,

True ... I think porting to the enhanced version will give this mega-great mod a new well deserved boost of attention.
Also true ... it isn't that expensive at all ... and Steam is ... well for almost everybody I guess ... the "standard game engine" nowadays.
So yeah I guess youre right ... maybe our mod needs "the new gaming way of Steam" and everybody just must/needs to accept to buy this new enhanced client

Tell you what ...  if BeamDog can give more information on how to port old modules with all the needed hak packs and tlk files ...  and also give all the needed info for linux dedicated servers ...
I surely will give it another try.

Untill then .... welll ... embrace the old way I guess ...   :lotr:

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: Satorial on 10 December 2018, 21:05
I'd have to reinstall the original NWN just to play GvM. I'd be outta luck if we didn't get it over to EE. If worse comes to worse, i'll go as far as asking for a copy of the module just to figure it out myself with some people i know. But, aslong as theres some sort of hope for it, i'm content.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 10 December 2018, 23:33
Hold you're horses, but dont keep you're hopes up ....  :drunken_smilie:!!
Read a lot in some still active neverwinter nights communities such as ... https://neverwintervault.org and others ... and discovered a lot.
Ive managed to load the old module into the enhanced toolset !!!!  :headbang:
Hak, tlk and a lot of other files seemed to go into you're own MyDocuments\neverwinter nights folder ... weird place for a steam game ... but hey ...

Also hope to get the colored icons into the mod
https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/other/gui/colorized-spell-icons-generation-1
Lets hope it works without people needs to also adjust stuff.
So maybe just maybe ... as you said Saorial ... there's hope ...
For now ... I'm off tweaking poking testing and even more testing ....  :homework:
keep you all posted ...

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 11 December 2018, 21:22
... progress so far ...
OMG ... this is more troublesome than I thought ...
But ... There are people who ported old dedicated servers into an enhanced version into Steam ... so there is hope.
Still no real luck with the mod itself .... lots and lots of errors and missing stuff during build fase.
Have asked -fire- for help in this ...
However ignoring all these errors and testing ... gives some response and is playable for local enhanced nwn client users ... !!!
W000t !!  :headbang:
So there is even more hope :D
Multiplayer users however is not working at all ... have to read more I guess.

Linux shall become another obstacle ... version I have and need (its also my firewall) cannot run the enhanced version I've read ... need an entirely other linux version for this ...
But first things first ...
Getting the enhanced mod and multiplayer options working into a testmode on windows first ...

- to be continued -

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 11 December 2018, 22:12
Hmmm I've managed to run a testserver ... but .... cannot login or press play
Probably because you never have to login in a steam-program like the enhanced nwn client ... you cannot get into youre own servervault in-game playername.
Dunno how to approach this actually ... cannot find similar problems online ... its frustrating to say the least.
Still not giving up. ... but help appreciated ...

Hi guys

I have yet to buy NWN EE so can't offer any advice today but bare with me maybe a week. I see that it is available on Mac which means I can at least try to get the mod up and running, as my Windows environment where I used to play/dev, the standard version is currently out of action.

As I said bare with me a week or maybe just to the weekend as I will be on leave after Friday so should have some time. NWN has not been at the top of priority list for the last few months due to personal reasons but would be nice to get the mod up and running on EE.

OK in doing some reading and preparation of buying EE, while the NWN game is available for Mac/Linux, the Toolset isn't which means unless I get a Windows PC running, I'm stuck   >:(

This entire thread has increasingly brought so much hope to my 2019. You have no idea. I wish i could help, but i don't exactly know what i could do other than populate the server with my presence until i'm sick and tired of NWN.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 15 December 2018, 23:01
Progress and discoveries so far.

New enhanced server looks like its running in multiplayer mode (yeah!!)
 ... but ....
servervault gets filled with youre new enhanced client public CD key (scrambled part from cd-key ... just like we use in some of our server-scripts)
So the names we are used to ... such as GreyDeth (or GreyzX6t) will not work anymore
Furthermore our old characters cant be found by the new enhanced client .... new toons can be made however.
Maybe we can convert old toons somehow ...
But we have also this setback  ...
I think our old "security-cd-check-script" is causing some trouble ... cause even when Ive made a new character ... when I press play, it takes about 10 seconds and then I get a message "you've been booted" and I'm in menu again.
(some error in the logs ... looks like this one ... GOG: Authentication failed: 0 ...)
I will try to rebuild the enhanced mod somehow without the cd check ... -fire- ?? can you give me some hints with this?
First I want to see it work in a multiplayer environment ... then I will try to find solutions for our servervault-characters.

However small ... still making some slight progress I guess ...
but help and hints still appreciated
- stay tuned -

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition

In regards to recovering old toons -
I for one, am completely okay with having to start over entirely. I was hoping, and planning on doing that anyway. Nothing says " Throwback " like a fresh start on an oldschool module.
This way i can get in on all the raids that happen in the beginning and get myself some top gear (Assuming i get on at the right time that is) One of the major downsides to playing back in the day was never having the proper gear to go on said raids with players.
I still remember the first time i got Aragorns Armor, i nearly had a heart attack. It was Christmas every time i logged on.. Baragors Axe is still on my bucket list. Never did get to wield that bad boy.

I get more and more excited thinking about this module making the jump over everytime i come back to this forum. It's killin' me. >.<

Hey

I've got myself a Windows 7 VM running and just bought the game, so just about to head off and install it all.

Grey - I see your comment regarding the CD key script, we should be able to disable this just for testing/getting setup but it is an additional level of protection on the mod to stop people from getting into the DM client.

Grey, other than building the mod, have you made any changes to the mod itself so far? If so PM me, but will post back soon :)

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 16 December 2018, 11:53
OK I've got the game installed and the mod compiled against the Extended Edition Toolset.

I've setup a local server with the mod running and can login as a 'player'. I've not had to make any changes to the mod itself and I'm not being booted or anything by the CD check script.

I've yet to actually see how to login as a DM as there doesn't seem to be a DM client that I can see (I'll need to look this up).

Looks promising.

hey -fire- ... great news man ... glad you join the search towards NWN-EE
Did not change mod at all (wouldnt dare actually ;-) just rebuild it with new EE-toolset
local players works I saw that too ... but no succes with existing toons yet.

DM should work with -dmc option in shortcut ... at least I read that somewhere.
Steam Community has lots of NWN-EE sections ... but couldnt find any reference about porting old NWN multiplayer-mods to new NWN-EE.

Will try a lot today ... hope you or me can succeed here.

@Satorial: LOL  ;D
I'm getting more excited too

Hey Grey, I've got DM access (found the same info as you did). Had to update the public key in the script that does the check and DM access all works fine.

I am running the test mod in server vault mode rather than local and appears to also be fine. I'll try and port a toon over next from the old mod.

Woot !!
Im happay and sad at the same time ....
Happy you find multiplayer working ... but sad I couldnt get this to work !?

Still will search further
maybe https://forums.beamdog.com will help us with information too.

Keep up the great work man! :D
I'll try to do some more exploration too ... but think you are closer to a solution here.

Also fun to notice we both are busy with this at the same time (countries separated but one in effort and time  ;D)

Oops I just remember I actiually did change something ... I included in hak a colored-spell.hak ... I really love this one so i tried this in build ... did not got any errors beside lots of others 'bout this one though.
Hmmm maybe rebuilding this way was not a smart move  :(

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 16 December 2018, 13:03
OK I have been able to port one of my toons over from the standard game's vault.

So I think that is everything. Now we just need to get it working on your box Grey. Is this a linux server?

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 16 December 2018, 13:33
Sjeeez you are fast .... wow Respect m8 !

Was just reading on Beamdogforum issues about old servervaults
https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/67139/my-server-vault-no-access

And now you have an actual working windows GvM mod ?? amazing!

Linux ...yeah (really old version of Linux actually ... so if it needs to have add-ons there or newest linux builds ...  :(
In that case I think I need to port everything on a windows machine and change my firewallrules a bit.
But that can give some other unfortunate side-effects ... such as not been able to remotely change mods or backup remotely
hmmmm ... ok .... I think step by step here is best ....

for testing purposes on Linux I think I do a full backup now .... and put the working server on hold during the tests.

Do you have a reference for me where I can see what is needed for linux in case of running a NWNEE mod?

BTW how did you port an old toon successfully !??
What is needed for that?

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 16 December 2018, 13:46
Well The server vault port is going to be very manual as NWN EE and traditional NWN server vaults look to work completely differently.

On the face of it it looks like you can't have multiple accounts without multiple CD keys, as the new server vault works off the public CD key rather than login name.

So on standard NWN, each login would have it's own folder under the main servervault folder. On EE instead it creates folders using the public CD key. Which means if I wanted to port all of my toons over from my 4 or 5 accounts (-firecracker- , inn.ervation, -firecracker-mule- etc etc), they are all going to have to be added to that same public CD key account folder in the EE server vault folder.

All I did was FTP down one of the bic files from my -firecracker- account from the standard server and dump it into my public CD key folder.

This means for vault ports, a DM is going to need to be logged in to know what the players public key is to then know which folder to move the toons over too.

I'll have a look for any Linux resources - I was setting up on Windows heh.

I've shut my test server down for now. A player logged in which was a nice test that the mod appeared to be working fine when online to the public.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 16 December 2018, 14:03
Grey, to get the server in servervault mode (rather than local vault) while we don't seem to specify it in the existing servers startup script have you tried adding the additional flag:
-servervault=1

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 16 December 2018, 14:08
heheh great news ... even others can login even unwanted ... but weird thing ... i did just that.
copied the old .bic file into my new servervault-partlyCDkey-map ... but that was just it ... I never ever saw my toon in my NWNEE client appear !?? only the newly created one ... and even this one did crash my session when I hit play ... <snif>

and yeah -servervault=1 i did that too already ... thnx though

But luckily for us it seems that you did have successes (and so fast! still in awe here)

I will try to get some info for linux-servers running NWN-EE but until now I'd only read people using linux "docker" ... unfortunately I cannot use that because of my old-linux situation.

I think I'll try to run a multiplayer windows version first (where you succeeded ... I'm still not able to ... so maybe I need to reread what you did .... for instance just compiling and not rebuilding maybe??)
when I succeed here ... I rebuild it on another machine ... after that I will announce on our forum the shutdown of the old and embrace the new .....
After the shut down the old server and running the new EE on a windows machine ... we need to get a solution for managing the files remotely for our "managing-team"

First thing first ... getting it to work just as you did ...
hmmm so compiling first ... and after that running a server via a batchfile executing the new nwserver.exe?? .... maybe oldservervault renaming??
-fire- ? that was just all you did ??
did not make adjustments in hak or override folders?

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 16 December 2018, 14:33
So step by step I did the following (I installed the game through Steam on Windows 7 Pro):

1) Take a copy of the current lotr_gondor_vs_mordor.mod file.

2) Move the mod file into here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Neverwinter Nights\data\mod

3) Open the nwntool.exe Toolset found below and find the module which should be listed:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Neverwinter Nights\bin\win32

4) Go Build -> Build Module, and click 'Advanced Controls'. Untick everything except 'Scripts' under 'Compile' and hit build. It will take a minute or two at moan about three files but these can be ignored.

5) When finished building hit 'Done'. Then go File -> Save As and use the name 'lotr_gondor_vs_mordor_ee' as it can't seem to overwrite the original mod. Close the Toolset.

6) Go to the following location:
C:\Users\<your windows profile name>\Documents\Neverwinter Nights\modules
Which is where the Toolset seems to save the new mod too and cut (don't copy) it back into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Neverwinter Nights\data\mod
If you don't cut (move it) and just copy it, there seems to be weird issues trying to start it.

7) Open the nwserver.exe Server found below:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Neverwinter Nights\bin\win32

8) Select the Module Name 'lotr_gondor_vs_mordor_ee', for testing only keep all the default settings EXCEPT untick 'Local Characters Allowed' - this will just enable server vault mode. We have other settings on the live instance but this one setting change is all that is needed for testing the server vault.

9) After a minute or two it should say loaded in the Server app. Fire up nwmain.exe and it will be listed under LAN game locally but will also appear in the Internet games listing. You have to join it from the LAN section when on the same network.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 16 December 2018, 14:34
You R great m8 !
I'll follow your steps ... thnx !!

- did a lot of modifications (hak files and override maps copied into C:\My Documents and .ini files modifications for instance)
So uninstalled all and reinstall it just now.

Just brainfarting  :D while waiting ... and wonder ... Could I run server on one machine without needing a running Steam account there !?? (cause I will use that on other machine for Client)
anyone?

keep you all posted

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 16 December 2018, 14:52
For the mod we do have some custom 2da files which just go into the override folder. These shouldn't be needed for testing but will be needed when/if the mod goes public as they handle most of the custom changes (spells/shifter/feats etc).

And of course CEP 2.4 - again go into corresponding foldesr in MyDocuments. If CEP isn't installed it will let you know when you try to open the mod in the toolset.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 16 December 2018, 15:45
Hmmm just as last time .... Im a bit stuck here ... server is running (indeed its also reachable by internet I saw) ... loaded the new builded module by starting the new nwserver.exe and unchecked the "local characters allowed"
But I need to type my player name ... then it refuses me (no playername found)
weird thing ... I ran it by batchfile last time and I didnt need to fill in a playername
Didnt you ran into this -fire- ?

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 16 December 2018, 15:51
I did have to add, to nwnplayer.ini - directly under the linke - [Profile]

PlayerName=-firecracker-

But this was a common issue I read about, not sure if it is needed. I also had the check remember name or what ever it said when it asks for your player name.

Is there server online? I can try and connect and see what happens.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 16 December 2018, 15:54
OK I see it online, when I connect I am getting 'Client and server versions don't match' >:(

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 16 December 2018, 15:57
Ah ... thx
But weird thing again ... tried to connect by internet connection ... reply was something like this ... relay failed you try to reach youre own public ip ... try LAN or direct-connect

LAN failed cause I got refused ... direct connect asked password for ip-connection AND again a playername ... just typed test here as before ... and it worked!??? I'm in .... hows that for strangeness !??

Ok so minor accomplishment ... now old character ...
I think we will getting there ...
just hang on ... :)

???? you get version problems???
another fuzzy logic issue ???
I'm getting confused here
server version is 8186  ... server info says that ... so it should be correct
Ah wait I'll get it.
Old server still running and my firewall doesnt have portreallocation to my PC ... will get there eventually ... sorry

But more prgression which I didnt have had before .... ported old toon into new servervault (public-CD-Key)map ... and it works !!!!
W00t!!  :headbang:

more testing to come .... now I will run server from batch ... and try to port database too

bugger .... could login saw my toon did run around a bit ... and ... kaboem without any warning my active client was totally gone ... didnt get into menu either .... oh oh
Continue testing

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 16 December 2018, 16:09
Is this the player database? I don't thnk the database will need to be ported as everyone will be coming in on brand new CD keys. In fact that CD key database will probably be redundant on the NWN EE version just because of the differences in how it uses CD keys/logins compared to standard NWN.

A new database will be created from scratch automatically and we can just go with that as it will be clean (even if it is redundant it's probably worth keeping).

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 16 December 2018, 16:14
Yeah I mean our server database ... and i think youre right ... will not work anymore cause of different mechanics with this new EE version.
Will be quite a bummer maybe for some of us.
Ok no database testing ... then testing with some overrides ... and stability issue on the way
Hopefully the batch-variant can be more stable

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 16 December 2018, 17:12
OK OK
story so far ...
it seems it will probably work in the end ...
server seems stable ... client too now ...
Still need a lot more testing from the managing side and player side ...
DM-ing for instance ... -fire- did test it ... I didn't yet ... probably need to modify script for it and I'm still too n00by for just daring that ...

For just the playing testing experience ... I'll open port 5127 instead for the standard 5121 ... and relay it to my PC

So make a shorcut pointing to
"<your-nw-EE-client-Steammap>\bin\win32\nwmain.exe" +connect gvm.publicvm.com:5127
ATTENTION
DONT FORGET the  " ... " between <youre path>\nwmain.exe ... just as I tried to explain above.
In youre path will be something like <neverwinter nights> ... and this has a space in it !! ... computers wont get this ... and will see this as 2 seperate things ....!!
So use of " is necessary.

once in a while I'll let the test server run for a bit .... so players can check and maybe ask in a different forum post for copying their toons in the new testsituation (soon to be real-running-) server
Meanwhile I'll try to find and configure a new server machine (so as long as needed we will have no linux but a windows machine as server)
As soon as the tests are successful AND my new Windows-servermachine is running ... we will have a new era of GVM !!!

If you PM me your new public CD I'll add it to the checks as I have already updated it with mine. I can just FTP the mod over as per the standard server.

Testing wise - I was logged in for some time on my test server and didn't see any issues. And the player who was running around for a while didn't report any issues which is good.

W00t after years I finally can use the DM client without crashing the whole server.
Thnx 2 -fire- ... now I shall study how this DM-ing all works in NWNEE

Further:
test NWNEE server is running a lot ... but only when I'm ready working and am home again.
can happen that its lagging cause I use PC also a lot
... but everyone is invited to test ! :D
(see shortcut instructions above - can also ask to import toons for the test if you want)
testserver will continue in final form or at least the servervault will

I shall build the new NWNEE GvM server this Christmas holiday ... meanwhile testserver shall run lots of times ... and our "old faithful server" shall run until the new one is running!
So it takes only a couple of weeks I think  ;D
More info what to expect soon in other thread.

Exciting times people!!

Thnx for this option hfodf ... if something goes awry I might knock on your door about this.  :icon_thumright:
Would be nice to see you playing too on the new GvM-EE server one day.

And just sharing my experience here about this new serverversion:
... everything runs just more smoothly! .... loading times r are lot faster and some minor bugs are gone (my cloak for instance now shows itself everywhere ... on old server cloack was quite buggy)
And to be honest it has indeed nice graphical improvements  ... if you really focus on it, that is.

Grey, hoping I can help you out with the migration work, I was already browsing the online documentation a bit.

Specifically this one seems to indicate how to migrate character vault from 1.69 servers to EE servers (if you want that or not, I'll leave up to you):
https://www.beamdog.com/nwn_faq#39 (https://www.beamdog.com/nwn_faq#39)

Just ping me if you want to get together (teamspeak, discord, slack, whatever) and get this show on the road!

Cheers!

Hey b_k ... again thnx for youre proposal and for the info.
But everything will work out just fine ... you'll see.
I've planned to have the new server up and running within 2 weeks ...
probably around new year ... before that everyone can testrun as mentioned above with the new NWN-EE client ... and even request to port servervault already.
More to come soon - this weekend I think.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: bad_karma on 22 December 2018, 08:59
Okido, I'll already go ahead and buy the EE. Reason why I asked if you needed help is that I see some opportunity for GvM to get its player base up, if we manage to port the world before Xmas. Ppl tend to have more free time on their hands between Xmas and new year. And where better to spend it than on GvM ;-)

So, I have faith that you are on top of things and the offer still stands: if you need help, technical or even just moral support while your hacking, drop a message or find me in-game.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: bad_karma on 22 December 2018, 09:02
And as if it was meant to be: I just log into steam to find that nwn EE is on 70% discount! I'll buy some for friends as a Xmas present now ;-)

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: bad_karma on 22 December 2018, 09:51
And Grey, I was still under the impression that you just got started with this... and then i saw a full page of discussions between you and fire to get the server running ::)

Safe to say I was late to the party, but better late than never.

heh, now you see that checking our forum regularly is a necessity  ;D
And 70% discount !!! W000t  :pompom:
(Almost sure this will make my kids pretty happy when they see a gift in steam ;-)

BTW
Test NWNEE GvM-server will be running almost! 24/7 this holiday .... so buckle up and have fun already!
and with Test I mean ... everything that will be done and earned here will go to the soon-to-be real server too .... Test-servervault will also be definite servervault!! (and old servervault will be ported on request)

I have been holding off joining the module in case anything changes once it's opened for playing. If i were to make a character, would i still have that same character and everything i've collected on him by the time you're finished with the module in it's entirety? Or should i wait.

Simply so i don't invest too much time into something i won't be keeping. Because i know theres a few people whom are clearly interested in transfering over old characters, where i'm simply going to be starting from scratch.

Hey Satorial

I did wrote:
Quote

So plze join ...
test is only test in name ... because it will undergo some minor shutdowns while building it on new hardware and new configuration ... after that it will run same but only more stable :)
No one ever said module itself would be changed besides making it work in "enhanced-mode"
So dont need worry bout losing stuff.

Hope to see you online

SO.. Upon trying to log in, i'm asked to locate some missing Hak files that are required? I haven't got this before. I was able to check the player list and Create a Character (Which i never finished) .. But now it won't even let me sit in the server vault. Boots me out immediately. Is there something i'm missing? I haven't lurked the forums in a bit.

Well, yeah.. I've always had NWN:EE, and the CEP is a must to have in order to play any modules. So, that's all said and good.. But the module still isn't allowing me access. As i said, this is just happening now. Only yesterday i was allowed access to view the player list and create my character. Now i can't even get to that point. I have all of that, it's just the server not letting me in. Suppose i'll just let it sit for awhile and try again tomorrow.

@Satorial: I'll try to be online multiple times during this weekend. I'll check the forum to see if you are also online so I can help you figure out the problem. Maybe it's an issue others will also face and if so, I would like to add solutions to the "getting connected" topic I've started.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 04 January 2019, 15:06
Hmmm weird,
Yesterday I saw someone playing without any trouble ... are you using Steam-NWN:EE join multiplayer game for making a connection and not a direct-connect link?

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: Satorial on 04 January 2019, 15:39
I only ever log in that way, Grey. I can see the server on the list, i can access it, but once it brings me to the " Character Select " screen, almost a milisecond later, i'm booted back to the main menu and told i'm " Missing required HAK file " .. But it doesn't list which one, or anything for that matter. I've yet to subscribe to anything new recently, so i don't think nothing is colliding with another override. And as i've stated already, only two days ago i was in there creating a character, i just never completed said character. I lost motivation halfway through for the build i was going to bring in, figured i'd come back another time when i found another. I distinctly remember seeing the player list. Four other players were online, then i went into Character Creation. Now i can't even so much as have time to even click the player list. Was anything recently added to the server? Or done to the server since Tuesday? Anything of that sort that would trigger this, even though everyone else isn't having any issues. Maybe i'll re-subscribe to the CEP on Steam. I still can't get in today.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 04 January 2019, 16:37
Gets stranger and stranger ... no nothing added to server at all ... no modifications ... only a reboot yesterday.
And
Hak files .... hmmm maybe a resubsribe for the CEP-files by The Amethyst Dragon ???
did you made a toon called maricleonson or angelofdeath ? These ones I see made on Thuesday 1st januari

Now trying with a RL friend to make 1st connection to server ... keep you posted

OMG .... he has the same problem ... in the server and within 2 seconds gone again ... his error: missing required hak files ... same as your error.
rebooted the server ... rebooted the host PC ... nothing works yet :(
ongoing investigation ...

Wow!!
Speaking about buggy programming ....
Found it ... thnx to Bazbas !
Workshop subscribings/installs from CEP are placed in:
<steam-install-place>\steamapps\workshop\content\704450\1312882397
So Solution:
In C:\Users\<youre-name>\Documents\Neverwinter Nights\nwn.ini
change under [Alias] the HAK and TLK references to the right place!

Pffff what a strange old skool solution .... did not expect this from Steam
Hope this will help you too

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 04 January 2019, 18:40
I installed CEP the old-skool way downloading it from the neverwintervault. I didn't think to look on Steam for it.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: Satorial on 04 January 2019, 21:32
Yeah. Figured that would've been the case at some point, i was just trying to understand why it let me in one day, and not the next. I guess the secret to fixing most things regarding HAKs and what not is to simply go a little oldschool. I took all the files from the TLK folder and HAK folder, and just threw them over to the EE Folder, and i've been granted access. We are good to go.

So i guess in Bad Karma's case, whenever they come around to see the resolved issue, let it be known that if this problem ever occurs for others, the fix just requires them to transfer the files manually over from one folder to the other.

Post by: bad_karma on 04 January 2019, 23:15
Thanks for letting us know! I will add it to the "get connected" guide. I did have two other players test a virgin install of nwn EE + cep workshop and they both could connect without problems. But hey.. This is nwn we're talking about. Setting it up to work has never been its strength.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: Satorial on 05 January 2019, 02:34
I think out of all the games i've ever played on the computer, Neverwinter Nights has given me the most issues. Can't say it's the easiest game to work around when it comes to getting all the CEP's. It used to be a hell of a lot more difficult on oldschool!

But i'm in, and i'm playing.. so i'm a happy camper.

Now we just see how long it takes me before i start whining about how i miss all my old gear...

Btw the shifter spells are not working, it's just the normal spells, and not the new ones added (for example, kobold shape has invis, but not improved invis as it was on the server previously). Thing is it worked before the recent reset, so not sure what has happened.

Oops indeed my fault ... forgot to copy the overrides
Will be fixed after reset ...
Fixed!

On a similar vein, I noticed specter couldn't use metamagic on NEB anymore. Not sure if that was an intentional change on the mod or by beamdog in EE, or if it's something unintentional... figured I'd bring it up though. Might affect rak/azer as well... too lazy to test.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: bad_karma on 14 January 2019, 08:33
The same issue was already reported in-game, but thanks for posting it here as well. We'd need to check what introduced this problem. It was definitely not intentional. Lucky thing, that there are about 1000 other builds to play in the meantime ;-)

Can't believe NWN is getting a new lease on life. Totally amped for it! (Grey, please get my toon in there asap!!)

One quick Cosmetic comment: Any chance to tidy up the server name in the Server list? It's a bit....CAPSLOCKY right now.

Not gonna lie, seeing the server list populate gave me goose pumps... such awesome memories rushing back. Really hope we get a few new (and old) players coming in.

See yall in game soon I hope!

I've found a couple of other references to this problem elsewhere in the nwn community - I think it's an issue with EE.

Probably a fair balance change for specter, if I'm being entirely honest. Outsider shape is pretty useless now though, unless making a melee death slaad.

I have loaded EE and saw the whole server list, which is so cool to see after so many years!

However, I cannot join any servers except the first one which is called Nordock playZen.

When I tried to use direct connect, i got a message "Direct Connect and UDP hole punch failed."

Any sugestions?

Look for CEP in Steam NWEE Community ... then you see an option "subscribe"
After that maybe have a look here:

Hopefully that will get you further

Thanks for the help!

Downloaded and installed CEP 2.65.

All the server names are still dark and I cannot join any of them, including GvM.

I have sent email to GreyDeth with my public CD key.

Honestly dont understand why you cannot choose another server what does Google say about this?
did search myself ... probably something here:

Maybe that will work?

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: TM5000 on 05 February 2019, 01:44
I additionally updated NWN:EE to v 78.8186, reapplied CEP 2.65 and the quickfix (cep2_2_65_quickfix.7z).

Now all the servers are "lit up", but I get a message that I m missing a required hak file when attempting to get on GvM.

Still working on it!

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: -firecracker- on 05 February 2019, 18:37
Hey, that sounds like something is missing from the CEP installation as the mod doesn't use any custom hak files to download (the idea being to make it as accessible as possible).

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: TM5000 on 05 February 2019, 21:50
All the game tells me is that I am missing a "requireed HAK".

Isn't there a log where I can see what is actually missing?

I  looked in the game directory but can't find anything.

Sorry for being so helpless on this but I just got back from Afghanistan and I don't remember these things!

I have actually been able to log in to 2 other servers and play,  so it really puzzles me what GvM says I am missing.

ATTENTION!
Steam Workshop subscribings/installs from CEP are placed in:
<steam-install-place>\steamapps\workshop\content\704450\1312882397
So if stuff is not working .... this is the Solution:
In C:\Users\<youre-name>\Documents\Neverwinter Nights\nwn.ini
change under [Alias] the HAK and TLK references to the right place!

Here are the missing HAK files .... or did you read this already?

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: TM5000 on 06 February 2019, 12:47
Yep, already saw that.

I unzipped the CEP into the directory where the game resides which on my computer is called "C:\Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition".

The directory "Steam/steamapps/workshop/content" only contains one subdirectory called "72850".

It is empty.

Title: Re: NWN Enhanced Edition
Post by: GreyDeth on 06 February 2019, 18:05
??? Unzipping ???
You only need to subscribe to CEP on Steam ... no need to unzip at all
Also youre real gamefiles where NWNEE needs to work with are all in:
C:\Users\<youre-name>\Documents\Neverwinter Nights\
so if you really want you can also place the files there in the right place
But really no need for that if you have subscribed ... after that you will have:
<steam-install-place>\steamapps\workshop\content\704450\1312882397

Think you will get there with these info ...
Hope seeing you online soon
