I'm not 100% sure about this, but i think i read somewhere that now also some docker images exists that can run nwserver. If that is the case, we could try and configure one on -fc-'s machine and then just use the same image. At least then the config will be identical.

Assuming the 2017 file originates from some pre-ee install of nwn, i would first start with a complete cleanup and fresh install of a single nwn-ee instance. Make sure to wipe any and all config locations and maybe even a quick clean of the registry.

With a single install, you're setup will become "reproducible" by others like FC. It bring down complexity, which is always good for reliability.

Edit: or maybe i misunderstood your info completely and you already have a fresh env with single steam install that resulted in all those files. If that is the case then I agree with your "I really dont get the mechanics" :-)

I think the greater ungol ring drops from those big guys in the tower of cirith ungol.

Elven battle priestess helm sounds like something that can drop in either Rivendel or Lorien.

Morgothu's choker is from a dragon in a secret area. I'll give you some tips: go through the black gate, find a cave on the right side of that map. There you will have to fight a heavy fight... Then, look around!

Lesser ring of Orodruin.. hmm aren't those acid monsters behind black gate called something liko Orodruin bla bla? Not sure really, just thinking out loud.

Blessed cloak. Hmm I used to loot those a lot.. Maybe the mobs around Pelargir king?

All fine with me! Sry for the confusing '24' mention. I thought I read a post on this forum that claimed it was the '25' ability scores that were killing it. Anyway: i have quite some wemic/brownie builds now, so I too would like to keep them and the extra build options they bring.

The cheating remark, fyi, was triggered by a toon that was seen online with more than 2000 hps. Not sure if this was true or not.. i just thought to share it so that all is on the table when we make decisions.

Do we know what the actual value for str and dex is that triggers the invalid character message? I think i saw someone post it is only once choosing dex 25, with dex 24 still being fine. If that is the case, i'd favor having enforce legal characters ON and putting a message on forum that wemic/brownie can "only" start at dex/str 24.

Rationale: it could hardly be considered a nerf for those races, because they are way overpowered to start with and it is not like the ability points vanish. They just move somewhere else. Also, having enforce legal ON would give me some safe feeling for making cheeting harder (although i admit I wouldn't know how to do it and/or this mechanism helps to fend this off)

I believe you were testing this build the other day when I was also in the test area: it seemed really impressive! Really nice it has no dispellable buffs, and not to many buffing at all to get to those ab numbers.

I agree that it's probably smart to turn _off_ item lvl restriction for another week, to let ppl remove items from their toons and make them legal again. Just leave a warning here on forum that it will be enabled again.

I noticed today that the server is not enforcing item lvl restrictions anymore. Was this change intentional? Just want to say that it greatly impacts low-lvl area balance. For example: i just started an new toon, and could run around at lvl 2 with 45+ ac, 15+ ab and a lot of dmg reduction.

Don't think this adds to the gaming experience (and therefore think it was mistakenly changed).

Also, someone recently mentioned the server didn't enforce legal characters, but haven't verified that myself (wouldn't even know how to be frank).

KD: the tougher bosses often also come with fairly tough adds around them, that need to be killed ASAP. Those can be neutralized effectively with KD, as I experienced this week when we successfully attacked Barad Dur. Also, KD is very useful on casters.

Also, it helps this particular build greatly while solo leveling, because it trigger 3 sneak attacks per round that greatly increase dmg output on this dexer. But hey, if KD is not your thing, just replace it with other nice feats like toughness/skill focus as Thiagow suggests. That will also work well.

About the dispell of ranger: that is why I started the barb version yesterday. I couldn't agree more with your remark: everything that can be dispelled...

Edit: and maybe one last remark to put my builds in context. I try to also have fun / adventure while I lvl my way to 40. These days I cannot spend time like 15 years ago, which means the grind to 40 needs to be enjoyable as well. For sure feats like KD (but probably others as well) that have less use in endgame boss fight are very nice around lvl 20. You will not often see me roaming the osgilliath graveyard for hours on end.

OK, so also did the similar build but with ranger instead of barbarian. I'll post finding here in short, maybe I'll post the build on separate thread later.

Final class lvls: ranger 19 / assassin 16 / hs 5

Attack comparison with barbarian build:
barb 70/65/60/55 70/65/60/55
rang 66/61/56/51 68/63/66/61
Not sure what to make of this. Barb max ab is highest, but nr of attacks above 60 is the same and the ranger actually does not look bad at all either with the off-hand buff.

AC comparison:
barb 85 with rage on (on server probably 88)
rang 86 (on server probably 88, not 89 because no shield)

Notable diffs:
Ranger does not have annoying 4x rage to get max ab, instead it uses longer lasting aid spell (which can be dispelled contrary to rage).
Conceal is 65% for ranger, down from 70% for barb.
Ranger seems a bit more versatile, with some nice call-out player tool 3 and the cure serious wounds spell changes (did anybody ever cast this on a mob: its heals are quite insane!)

I noticed on nwn wiki on the web that KD can only be performed on enemies up to one size category larger than yourself. With IKD I think you count as one size higher, which should mean that you can actually KD trolls, ogres and other giant subraces. With that in mind, I guess I'll stick with it, because a prone target will trigger sweet sneak attack.

Changing the lvling scheme is indeed an option. I wanted HS asap so that you get those potions early, greatly improving dmg and ac. In terms of pre-epic ab, it doesn't matter if you take 13 or 15 barb, because you'll take the assassin's +0 twice either way (on lvl 1 and 5).

But really nice additions! Opens up room for minor choices by players.

Actually no bad input, Sky. Your info about ranger and dual wield.. I'm thinking of swapping out barbarian for ranger would make sense. Going to loose 5% conceal this way, but when taking

ranger 19 (16 pre-epic) / assassin 16 / hs 5

I think ab would be comparable (ranger bless/aid?), but ac would be better (no rage) and attacks per round the same because of off-hand. Shield ac would be compensated by parry. Will try it later and report back.

It is not dual wielding, but using large shield (brownie cannot lift a tower shield.. the question is: can tower shields lift brownies?).

Btw: do you have a link to that ab increase from parry? I know that it gives an armor increase in some classes (i think the ones you mention), but ab i didn't know..


Update: just checked, the parry AC bonus is for ranger and rogue only. Not for assassin.
Update 2: actually you are right, there is a 2ab bonus for dual wielding when having 18 lvls combined ranger/rogue. I don't think you need parry for that btw.. In any case, the +2 ab is only applied to the off-hand if I recall correctly. I think I remember seeing weird attack rolls where the offhand attack has higher ab than main hand. A nice buff, sure, but not super.

Posting this in rogue builds section, because it is very similar to the build Thiagow just posted (we were actually in test area together, 2 little midgets haha). And even though it doesn't have rogue class, it's certainly rogue-ish.

Race: brownie, of course!

Starting stats:
str 8
dex 24
con 16
int 14
cha 13 (cannot go lower, brownie)
wis 11 (cannot go lower, brownie)

Put all points in dex to reach 48 (with great dex)

Final stats will be:
ab 71 (74 with tenser), 8 attacks (9 with tenser)
update: ab 70 if taking kukri, which I now checked is much nicer dmg!
ac 85 while raging (test area, approx 87 in server)
70% conceal

Used dagger in test area, but with similar choices as described by Thiagow in his bg/rogue/hs build, you can also take kukri and sacrifice some feats like great dex/blind fight/epic sf discipline.

Playing tip: spam knockdown so that you trigger the 12d6 death attack from assassin. This build kind of needs it for dmg output. In team fights you will always have them, if you have a tank of course.

As an extra note about wemic and double weapon: the script that gives extra ac when you take certain classes currently also works for wemic even if you carry a shield. The script just seems to check for double weapon being equiped. Didn't  try to get an edge out of that yet, but just sharing.

Never actually looked much into blackguard changes, so thanks for that bg bullstrength thingy. I knew it now gives more ab bonus, but never noticed the additional attacks at 21 and 26!

Will try a similar build with bg and see where it ends up. With the low amount of ppl on the server, I tend to focus on alround builds a bit these days. Ditching the ac loss from barbarian rage for a couple of (low ab) attacks.. I'd like to see how that plays out.

I just finished a build like this yesterday. A few different things from yours.

I went Dwarf for the CON, instead of Half-Orc. Also I started with 20 CON and finished with 26 CON(with +2 from RDD). STR was 15 and finished with 34.

Going Great Axe I managed to get KD/IKD, along with all other Hitter excential pre-epic feats. (Blind Fight, Weap Focus, Improve Crit, Heavy Armor, etc)

I also didn't pick Terrifying Rage, only Mighty and Thundering.

tl:dr

AB buffed: 68, 73 with tenser.
AC: irrelevant since this is a pure hitter.
HP: 1032 (that's right, 1032).


Great, second time in as many days that I create a build, only to find that mr Thiagow did (in this case) the exact same thing years back haha. Anyways, just wanted to confirm (since I now have it in test area) that if you do this build as a wemic, you end up with ab 76 (and 10 attacks) using tenser.

Attack scheme is actually quite insane if you ask me:
76/71/66/61/76/71/66/61/56/51 Oh my!

In my build, it didnt include IKD. I think I would settle for 75 ab by taking great str 3 instead of 5 and then taking IKD and epic skill focus: taunt. Downside of wemic is supposedly that he wields all weapons as single handed (didn't actually check this yet, but i can imagine this is the case). Upside is that a wemic does get to carry a tower shield and has large stature, which makes (I)KD even more effective.
