Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: You Have Been Booted

Hey Firecracker, thanks for the response.
Yeah, I already had GoG send me a multiplayer CD Key prior to trying to play online.
I've noticed when I have been on NWN lately I haven't seen any players in GvM. Is the server pretty dead? Are there ever others on playing these days?
I'd prefer to continue using my old NWN account, but I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble if no one else is playing anymore.

Yes, new CD Keys.
I moved and left behind my original discs, so I bought a new copy of the Diamond edition off Good Old Games. I figured it might have something to do with CD Keys. Is there a way to fix this, or reset my saved CD Key data on the server?

Hello,
Recently repurchased and reinstalled NWN. I tried logging into GvM, but I get the message "You have been booted" as soon as I select my character and try to join the server.
Any idea why this might be happening?

Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Re: Is this server dying?

I think Neverwinter Nights in general is dying, not just GvM. Ever since the Gamespy server list went down (I think that was years ago now?), it became much more difficult for new players to find their way to a particular server. I've noticed the slow decay of my favorite Roleplay PW that I played for YEARS (alongside GvM).
If there is a way to bring new players into old NWN servers, I'm not entirely sure how to do it, let alone if it is even possible.

I don't think you need to take it to a computer repair shop. It's just an issue in your NWN folder somewhere.
I wish I give some better advice/help, but have you tried uninstalling CEP and NWN and reinstalling everything from scratch?

(I realize this post is a little dated, so I apologize if this issue has already been addressed and resolved.)
This sounds like an awesome plan and I look forward to seeing how it turns out. I always thought GvM's travel system needed a facelift.
What are the options being considered? Tickets available for purchase in the Pocket/Lobby? Maybe any 'boss' classified mob drops 1 ticket upon death? The latter would ensure even lowbies could be rewarded with a travel ticket.
Anyway, I'm sure Fire will come up with something great.

Hey guys.
I was pretty active throughout the process of getting the new GvM server up and running. I remember Grey getting Turril's old vault and checking a bunch of my old toons and mules, but I must have gotten busy and gone inactive right before I got any of them merged to the new vault. Is it still possible for me to get my old toons merged?

Hahah, we figured this out the hard way last night.
Steele, Meat and I went on a string of boss raids and surprisingly we somehow never wiped...but when we ported back to Eru's we noticed the xp and gp loss. Whoops.

Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Server Merger
|
on: 15 January 2014, 19:06
|
Now that Turril's server has come back online, I've been wondering what is going to happen with items and characters? Are we going to merge into one server, and if so will we be able to keep characters and items or transfer them over?
I recreated most of my old characters, some with the same names, so I am not necessarily interested in transferring characters over to the new server. I do however have a lot of items on my old toons, more than I recalled having, and some I don't even remember how or where I got them. It would be nice to be able to load a mule or two up and transfer them over to the new vault.
Has any thought been put toward this yet? Do others have concerns or questions?

Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Character Builds / Re: Tank Prototypes
|

I think what Wake was trying to point out is that H and MS just wont work well against bosses, so as a tank build they aren't important. However, that's why I leave the extra skill points. If a player likes playing stealthy and wants to use those skills while leveling or fighting regular mobs, they can tailor it to their own play styles. I just came up with a couple other builds I would like to share. While of course they wont reach the AC levels of the Ba/PM/SD tank, I still thought they were interesting. Keep in mind these are pretty rough. I made them in Excel but haven't tested either, so there is probably plenty of room for improvement...or they may not make good tank builds at all. Just tossing some ideas around. First, a Monk-Weapon Master-Shadowdancer. I wanted to try to get the Monk Wisdom AC bonus and other goodies, along with a Weapon Master's AC benefits from a Quarterstaff as well as some AB. SD for obvious reasons. I also wanted to go with Halfling race, but they cannot wield quarterstaves. I think this build dances between a tank and hitter though....oh, and it's damage is terrible. Monk(12), Weapon Master(8 ), Shadowdancer(20), Human
STR: 10 DEX: 16 (30) CON: 14 WIS: 14 INT: 14 CHA: 8

When making my builds in excel I usually max the most important skills for the build first. This includes skills like Dicipline, Tumble, Spellcraft etc., and any skills necessary for attaining prestige classes. I then leave most of the extra skill points to figure out as I go. This also gives others who want to replicate the build a little freedom in their personal skill selection.
When leveling that Ba/PM/SD tank I would most likely put a lot of my extra points into Hide and Move Silently.
EDIT: ...and what Wake said.

I was wondering if those EER feats were worth it. I think to make use of them you really need to sink a lot of feats/bonus feats into picking up multiple instances of EER. That makes a high Fighter build seem better for snagging them...or more PM I suppose.
I was trying to figure out a way to get both EMA and EW, but I couldn't. I'll have to go take another look and shift some levels around. According to the NWNwiki though Pale Master level 15 is required to take Epic Spells, so I'm not sure you can get both with 16 PM levels.

Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Character Builds / Tank Prototypes
|

There was a nice discussion going in my previous thread (Epic Resistances) about tank philosophies, strategies and feat selection. Instead of cluttering that up with tank builds though I figured I would just start a new thread. I've been leveling a hitter build, but I still intend to make a tank. I want to explore some build ideas and get some input from our local build experts. I'll post some of my build ideas for discussion/critiquing below. My number one choice right now seems to be the Bard/Pale Master/Shadowdancer. I've recently seen Wake of Death leveling one of these that is doing fairly well, and I know others have said this is one of the top tank builds of choice lately. I've made up a preliminary build of my own, a Ba4/PM16/SD20 (posted below). I'm not sold on my feat selection. The third SD epic feat seems like a crap shoot. Another build I've been messing with is a Fighter/Dwarven Defender/Shadowdancer. I like the use of DD for not only damage reduction and a little AC, but Defensive Awareness II. From what I understand this should eliminate flanking bonuses and loss of AC to surrounding mobs. I could be misunderstanding the mechanics of that though, so please let me know. The thing with this build is that you end up in that weird "tweener" area with Fighter levels, where you get extra feats, but not enough levels to take advantage of the Widget. I am still struggling with whether EDR is worth it. In order to get EDR on these Dex based tank builds means sacrificing Dex for 21 Con, in the end, which I am not sure is a great idea. I am sure there are plenty of other good tank builds people have out there (i.e. Shifter/Construct and DD/PM tanks), which I do not know how to create, so please feel free to post them in this thread as well. It would be nice to get multiple tank builds in this thread so we can not only tweak and improve them, but weigh the Pros and Cons of different approaches. Also, please note that I am talking about dedicated tank builds here. In other words AC, Evasion, DR and ER are priorities while AB, Damage and Strength are not. Bard/PM/SD Build: Bard(4), Pale Master(16), Shadowdancer(20), Halfling

I agree - somewhere in that mix is a great tank build waiting to be found...
I didn't realise you intended the F/SD/HS to be a tank build - it seems obvious in hindsight, considering the topic, but I just don't normally associate high fighter with tanks.
I actually am not sure it would make a good tank. Going for high fighter levels for widget proc. does seem more of a hitter build, but in this case focusing in Dex produces low damage which I would think is the opposite of what you want on a hitter build. I was thinking more of using the Widget abilities defensively in this case. I'm still not sure it would make an adequate tank, but I suppose that's what testing is for. The APR issue was something I had not thought about. I always forget Imp. WW Attack exists as I honestly do not think I have ever used it. I agree that may be worth looking at. Does anyone know if Imp. WWA bugs out like regular WWA when using it on three enemies?

...and good arrows are SUPER rare and hard to get, so each miss really hurts...
You'd think things like this would be good for adding to IG stores. We have all this gold stocked up and little options to spend it beyond level 40 (as far as I know). Ahh, but the IG merchants are another topic. I had realized a Dex based tank or hitter would deal low damage, however I started out with the thought that I wanted to build a completely dedicated Tank for group raiding. That is, completely forgo Str (and therefore damage) and even AB if necessary (unless going for Fighter widget proc.) and focus completely on AC, Evasion, Resistance and Hit Points. Of course, I had not thought of the problem of a Dex based Tank being flanked by mobs. A thought though....Dwarven Defender gets Defensive Awareness II at level 5. Would this not mitigate the flanking issue? I think it's the puzzle solving aspect of character building that has drawn me to it lately. I am convinced that hiding somewhere within the mix of "Fighter - Rogue - Shadow Dancer - Dwarven Defender - Harper Scout," there is a class combination using Dwarf or Halfling with the potential for a genius dedicated Tank build.

While this thread has skewed a little off topic, that is okay, I've found it very informative on GvM tank builds. Therefore I'm going to continue down these alternative paths of discussion.
Your Epic Dodge - Fighter Widget combo is a very neat idea. If only you could get a fighter build that can hit AND get Epic Dodge. I've already begun toying around with some...I doubt it will be possible in the end though.
That being said, I admittedly do not know much about Dex based builds as I've rarely ever played them. How does a Dex based tank work? How does a SD tank work? I'd love an explanation and some examples. Do you think it is possible to get a Ftr/SD/HS or close variant that can hit, proc. and epic dodge?

NLawson, I've been playing NWN since 2003. I fully understand how the Ability Point system works at Character Creation. Thank you. I also understand how to cast spells, equip, and unequip items. I still think it is tedious.
Based on some of the responses I get on the forums, I would just like to clarify that because I ask for build help or advice, does not make me a complete incompetent moron when it comes to NWN. I apologize, but until now in my NWN career I've never had to make insanely specialized builds that can handle 80+ AB. Being an on again off again GvM player over the years, I am naive to much of the end-mod content, so it's nice to get some insight before I spend the time leveling a build.
Sorry, I'm tired and frustrated after tinkering with builds in Excel for the past several hours. Apparently it is next to impossible to build a Dwarven Rogue/Dwarven Defender/Harper Scout or a Halfling Rogue/Fighter/Harper Scout with IE, Epic Dodge, SC V and EDR III. [Sigh]
On the EW bit. That actually helps, thank you. Being that it was DR from a spell I figured it would make EDR obsolete in the end...even when stacked with DD class DR. Given your explanation it would actually seem better to forgo EDR feats entirely and rely on EW if you can get it.
