Nope, still getting the same error... says server found and then attempting to connect for a few seconds, then connection failed and server not responding.
2  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Re: Server still alive? on: 22 November 2020, 02:59
I dunno, there's no port listed on the IP on the beamdog site for GvM. Some googling suggested trying to create a NWN folder in Documents and using a launch command to force the game to use that folder, but that didn't work either.
3  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Re: Server still alive? on: 21 November 2020, 20:10
How does the CEP install differ? I bought NWN:EE from GOG and installed CEP normally into the "C:\Spill\GOG Galaxy\Games\NWN Diamond" directory (as instructed in the readme).

The IP i found for the server on the beamdog site for GvM is 94.211.108.233, which gives me the error message:

Connection to server has failed.
Connection error: Server is not responding (timed out).

Mmm, well I can't get any online lists to work for me for whatever reason. When I connect to multiplayer I just get a message saying failed to connect, try another nick. I can however direct connect to some servers.

I'm guessing the hostname posted many years ago is outdated. Got any up-to-date hostname i can direct connect to?
5  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Server still alive? on: 20 November 2020, 23:56
Hey, it's been a few years since last I checked in on the server.

I recently re-installed NWN and was wondering if there's still active players on the server? Judging by the posts on the forum, there seems to be some players still active, but I can't find the server on NWNList, and I haven't been able to log onto the server. I tried direct connect using "gvm.publicvm.com" as hostname, but it says connection failed.

If there's still life on the server I'd love to come back to it again, as it was one of my all-time favourite NWN servers.
6  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: Server dead? on: 29 September 2017, 19:48
I'll probably pop on every now and then to check out the new content.

@-firecracker-  Yeah, 2010 was the last time I played NWN. I'm pretty sure the account name I had was Daccidflick. I decided to make a new account, in part because I couldn't remember my old password, and partially because looking back, it was a pretty juvenile name to use, heh.
7  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Server dead? on: 27 September 2017, 23:46
Hey guys.

I used to play on GvM back in 2009/2010, and recently decided to dust off my copy of NWN again (read: buy the Diamond edition off of GOG, cause the physical discs disappeared into the ether).

Looking through the list of servers with the NWN Server Browser, I've seen that the most players online for the last 2 days was 1, and usually it was 0. Is the server dead?
8  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Re: Paladin on: 13 September 2010, 19:03
The bosses might protest since big parties won't be needed, just 2 smiters.

As opposed to how it is now?

I can think of a great number of bosses that can be taken out by either just 2 smiters (like baragor, me and sancho/lawson have 2man smited him dead in 1 sec flat several times from invis), and a whole bunch who can be taken out by 2 smiters + a tank.
Even one of the top tier bosses can be taken out like that.

Also, we tried doing Smaug like that. 2 Smiters and 1 tank. We got him down to injured with smites, and then hit him for a truckload of divine damage every hit for about 45 seconds or so before our tank died out, so that's pretty close to badly wounded right there... I'm pretty sure 3 smiters + a tank (like sancho's conceal/AC tank) can take him down in about 60 seconds, tops.

--

@NLawson:

Your suggestion is still to make the smiters long distance runners, when they should just remain sprinters. There are already a whole bunch of different builds that can do a lot of damage over a long fight or long series of fights. The smiter is the only one with real burst damage. Let it stay like that.

Unless I'm completely misreading your previous post, you're suggesting to make it so you can only use smite once per 60 second or so, which would completely ruin the burst damage.

--

On another note, if you really want to make some smiter changes, do so to BG smiters.
As olle pointed out, BG smiters are vastly inferior to pala/cot smiters as it is now.
I'm fairly sure Sancho told me he was scrapping his BG smiter because it was so useless compared to just a regular hitter, while pala/cot smiters are far from useless compared to a regular hitter.
9  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Re: Paladin on: 12 September 2010, 23:56
I don't play smiters for two rounds of burst damage, I play them for the high ab and damage hits that get through to a boss that a normal hitter can't scratch. It all comes down to math.

My 2h barb with baragor axe gets 9 attacks per round and 73 ab self buffed (for about 60 seconds or so. then down to 69 ab I think it was... haven't played NWN in a while).

I highly doubt your or any smiter build can come anywhere near that.

Also, I can't think of a single boss, except for maybe Smaug and possibly that dracolich boss in fallen tomb, whom my barb "can't scratch". He may not do divine damage, but he makes up for it with 4 more attacks per round than a smiter, and godly AB.
10  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Re: Paladin on: 07 September 2010, 22:37
I like the healing pool idea. However, the smiting idea, if implemented, would put me off playing smiters.

The whole reason for why I sometimes play my smiter is for the heavy burst damage. If I wanted heavy damage, but more evenly spread out over a longer fight I'd just play my Limit Break (2h barb/rdd).

Formally requesting an AFK/Semi-AFK lounge for people who play other games when nothing is happening on GvM, or just isn't online.

Right now there's only:

Gondor
Mordor
Raid (1 raid, at that)

Would be nice to have a place to park so people can reach me while I'm playing Dragon Age, without having to listen to all the other chatter while I'm hunting darkspawn. :p
13  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Re: curses - blinding my eyes ! on: 31 August 2010, 21:04
Howdy,

While fighting a boss yesterday, I was again reminded of a particular idiosyncracy of NWN. While laying dead, my corpse was sending out party chatter about locations of NPCs/etc. Then an NPC walked by and caused me to make a save, which I failed. Thereupon, I was blinded and useless to the team effort (in my mind) for the next several rounds. This got me thinking.

WHAT ?
So, what if there was a script that introduces the outdated concept of Command, Control and Communication to GvM? In particular, this script would automatically cause players to be blinded (and deaf) if and when they die. With regard to implementation, the script will make the screen black and the dead player deaf either automatically OR by causing an auto failure to a save, whether to a particular save or force a save roll vs multiple saves (cf. great thunderclap).

Moreover, the duration of the blindness and deafness will either be fixed to some very long period, e.g. 999 turns, or be ended by cessation of battle music. Personally, I think the first is the better alternative since players can stop the battle music by running to the other end of the map, e.g. haradrim black cavern, or leave the map altogether.

Finally, rezzing naturally will remove the blindness and deafness. Incidentally, one must consider how to treat those conditions that death can not and will not remove; for example, some conditions require that the player jump in the pool in Eru's or take some other, specific action. This proposal does not addresses these specific conditions.

Notes:
  a. great thunderclap forces one to make reflex/fort/will saves regarding three diff effects. Here, the blind/deaf script could have the effect from ANY of the three saves be the same result, i.e. deaf and blind.

  b. Does deafness prevent players from receiving what would normally be outputted to the chat window? From memory, I believe that deafness does NOT prevent text from appearing in the chat window. In fact, the only thing that deafness seems to do for a player is to protect from curse song. In any event, if deafness does not prevent text from being outputted to the chat window, then one can ignore the deafness component of this on_Death proposal.

WHY ?
1. For both party PvP and party PvM, players must (ok, should) coordinate BEFORE engaging in combat. Specifically, once a player is killed, any further communication to/from that player will cease. This would disrupt planning and implementation of tactics. In short, pre-planning would require players to interact to a greater extent than they do already. This can only be good for the GvM community.

2. Such a script would reduce metagaming and account for the "unfairness" in favor of players against the helpless NPCs (and against enemy players). If the word unfairness seems inappropriate, one may substitute the word unrealistic (to the extent that one can use such a term in a computer game).

3. This script, in theory, could encourage DMs to re-consider the upgrading of the uberness of the various and sundry bosses that are vulnerable to zerg attacks. A zerg attack is an attack in which a large number of players just charge enemy NPCs and/or players with little coordination.

4. Finally, this script would make certain loquacious players quiet for a change  Roll Eyes

ciao,

No.
14  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: Adventuring for Levels 29 to 35 on: 27 August 2010, 17:26
Some of the best XP for those levels can be found in:

Drowlands: Blingdenstone
Dolamroth
Swanfleet
Front Porch

Since no one goes to any of these places, I can take my time farming. Pretty much have everything from these folks.

Well, yeah, when you make areas and hide them really well, then refuse to give out any information about them there's no surprise you're the only one farming those areas for loot.

15  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: Adventuring for Levels 29 to 35 on: 25 August 2010, 15:58
Here's where I usually level up from 29-33 (at 33 I usually raid all the way to 40, cos there are really no "good" leveling areas for 33+).

----------------

Solo Gondor:

- Shelob's (yes, horrible XP at 29-33, but since I mostly make specialist builds, like heavy 2h hitter, there isn't much else I can do solo).

Group Gondor:

- Ered Luith (or however it's spelled) --> Dagorlad --> Black Gates (the spawn outside the gate). Rinse and repeat.

- Stingers, Lowest level. Pretty good XP, and if you have a good group you can even kill Scorpia.

Solo Mordor:

Depends on class, really. Spirits if I have high AC and AB (or insanely high AB, as was the case with my 2h hitter). Moria if I'm playing a sorc, Wail spam.

Group Mordor:

- Stingers, Lowest level. Same as for Gondor group.

- Moria.
16  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Re: Heal/Mass Heal and Conjuration Focus feats on: 22 August 2010, 16:54
I see that bards are being seriously underestimated here.
A failed check vs taunt = 30% spell failure. That may not seem like much, but there are a lot of times when I've played my bard when bosses have failed to cast 3-4 heals in a row because of the spell failure I inflict on them with taunt.

Personally I don't see the boss heals as a big issue, as I usually don't try to take down bosses who have truckload of hp/ac AND tons of heals (like thranduil) without a bard (or a zerg, but I rarely zerg).
Other bosses who my hitter can hit on 15 or higher (which is a majority of bosses) or bosses where my smiter can smitesmitesmite them dead, the amount of heals they have are inconsequential, as it merely prolongs the fight by ~30 seconds.

There are a few exceptions, but I can live with those.
17  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Future Talk / Re: Heal/Mass Heal and Conjuration Focus feats on: 21 August 2010, 14:14
I've got a feeling you're still mentally scarred from that one fight with Thranduil, Sancho.
18  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: True Strike problem on: 18 August 2010, 19:27
Maybe it'll only work if you actually cast it. Did you use potion of true strike, tono?
19  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: Help - Advice please on: 18 August 2010, 19:26
I've got an archer toon in the making (lvl 19 now or so I think, it's not a high priority toon for me), 16 cleric/1 wiz/23 AA (although sorc works just as well). Will end at 18 base charisma and 26 base dex (went dex, because AA gets great dex as bonus feat, not wis). Might end with fewer spells per day, but higher max AB.

Gets 75 AB buffed (can buff to +20 AB cap, +5 bow and +15 from buffs) and has blinding speed for long duration haste. Also has rapid shot feat.
Gets +10 divine and +7 magical damage every hit + some extra physical from various buffs and AA lvls, with normal non-magical arrows averaging 38.5 damage (non-crit) before resistances. Naturally you'll likely be using arrows with a fair share of +damage on them (like divine wings for even more divine damage). It's not massive damage, but the AB is very high, so you'll pretty much hit with most shots on anything that doesn't have sick AC.

Fairly sure I posted the build in the archer build forum.

Also, regarding arrows when leveling/killing grunts, I use Cirith Ungol Bow (unlimited +1d6 fire arrows).
20  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: Horse Mount Question on: 18 August 2010, 19:14
I just have both bound to hotkeys (shift + f11/f12) and click hotkey + the horse to mount. Hotkey + target self to dismount.
21  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: Moria's Magic transition on: 10 August 2010, 00:02
it's when people hear a word or phrase and take a wild stab-in-the-dark at it, without even bothering to think about how it might not make sense the way they say it -  that's what annoys me.

I completely carcinoma with you, Lawson. It tiltilates me something placid when someone does that.
22  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: PR opportunity ! on: 05 August 2010, 19:11
who gives a flying F if somebody's name is spelled wrong?

I do. It bothers me. Just like it bothers me when a picture hangs crooked on the wall.

Eh I just feel like having our DMs fix spelling errors is sort of like having somebody with a PHD from Yale run a McDonald's.

Only if the person with a PHD from Yale is the only one with the key to said McDonald's.
As far as I know, the only people with access to actually fix the spelling errors are the DMs.

As NLawson said, if we make a thread and compile a list of all the spelling errors a DM could take 15-30 min of his/her day to fix them all at the same time. That should be an acceptable solution, no?
23  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: PvP statistics on: 05 August 2010, 12:05
If you think NLawson is a vet ( Tongue joking!), then Flaccid's assertion is correct. See below for a listing of those that were killed by Flaccid (same faction).

Total   Vacct
1    .denikrut
1    Chaozrulez
1    Dragoneye77
2    lolzcatz
1    mer'loc
13    NLawson
2    Sancho29
1    SlowDown_BR_
3    Thiagow2008
1    Yoghy

Those are the same faction kills (a.k.a free ports out of DP areas). I thought it would be fairly obvious that I meant opposite faction kills.
24  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: PvP statistics on: 04 August 2010, 16:39
Regarding killing same players, most of the players I've killed multiple times per reset are vets (yoghurt, dragoneye, not sure how old a player chaos is, but he has a pretty good toon in zebwhateverlongnamedragontoon). Only other times I can remember were times when I went 1v2 or 1v3 against overpowered/impossible people, like spukky with my antagonist build, some other guy and schlix (at least i'm fairly sure it was schlix, it was a monk/sd build).

I don't mind dying in PvP, and when I'm bored and have nothing better to do I often find myself trying to take on a challange by trying to solo groups of the other faction. Sometimes it works, and sometimes I end up getting killed within 5 seconds of coming near them. As you can see on the PvP statistics I've died quite a few times as well. xD
25  Gondor vs Mordor 1 / GvM1 Players Forum / Re: PvP statistics on: 04 August 2010, 10:43
I'm fairly sure 99% of all my same team PC kills are giving people free ports out of DP areas (MT, MM and Smelly Cave comes to mind). That, and killing people who ask to be killed because they're lvl drained. Tbh, I figured those were not counted in the pvp statistics (at least they shouldn't be counted).
