... where would you be if you were not on GvM? And why? While in my second era of GvM-ing I don't put in the number of hours I used to, I am here and I do play. I also play on a couple of other places, mainly Shadowmountain but GvM is still primary. To answer my own question.... If I had done more server research before getting on with GvM I probably wouldn't have stayed! PvP is cool, but I like more sporting or RPed type things rather than random brutality. *shrug* Ah well. Adapt or die. Or both if you're not good enough! By the time I had fully realised how "active" the PvP was, I was too into the other fine aspects of GvM. Second part... I probably would have ended up a Three Towns A fanperson, even more than my wife was! Or Shadowmountain or Neversummer. PS. Does anyone know whatever happened to the old Ragnarok server and crew?

Psss, I totally on the oposite way Shin . I'd probably be on a PvP server like Antiworld or Life vs Death. I don't like BoW because of that silly stupid Devastating critical and because lvls 40's really can kill anyone as they like since there are no real penaties applied to effy killing - although I must admit that it adds a lot to the atmosphere of a war. Maybe I would try again some RP server. I used to play on City of Arabel and I discovered one that made me interested on trying to do RP again, called Escape from the Underdark.

Oh I tried Escape from Underdark. I am not bad with RP, which was fine; but other restrictions seemed a bit contrived. But yes, quality RP.

I would spend time on several servers trying to find one that would fit and mostly in PvP ones trying to get them to adopt the GvM rules of PvP

Well, I've played/I play on neversummer, aventia, and 3Towns as well. Insomnia is a hell of a thing. Three towns is cool because there's perma-haste, which opens up a lot of new builds to toy with. The downside is you -need- to be in parties to get anywhere... you can't really solo anything past level 15 or so. By the time I get home from work, I'm tired of putting up with other people's BS... definitely don't want to have to do it as my free time activity, too Neversummer is cool because it has much more interesting faction fighting and more reason to pvp (very active guilds, persistent capture the flag, etc.). The reason I dislike playing there is there is no level restriction for pvp, which drives people to join guilds for protection. Guilds want people to be active with them, etc etc... see above. I think Aventia was a great server. It wasn't a PvP server, but there were frequent optional PvP DM events. You could solo and get good XP or find some decent items, or you could group up and hit the really tough areas with the crazy good drops. It was really a power player's server with mad fast xp, very good items, post-40 level bonuses, etc. Made for a very fun time (nobody can be bored when they can get a toon to 40 in a couple days). unfortunately, it lost its player base due to the good DMs disappearing, and the annoying DMs becoming more active. I like GvM, and if forced to choose between the above or nothing, I'd be playing guitar hero, too . If a new, active Aventia-like server popped up with cool DMs, I'd be there in a heartbeat. No offense to the GvM devs, but Aventia let the players do more of what -they- wanted. You don't need super cheesy power builds to just scrape by.

Just the sort of post I was looking for... I didn't catch Aventia. Sounds like the sort of place I would have liked a lot.

lmao- Im having one more- the GF is preggers. You think I would have figured out what causes that. I think if GvM went down, I would try to get a copy of the mod. Not to change or have it online but to see what I'm missing in terms of getting the builds right. In otherwords, reverse engineer my toons. Yeah- I have no life

I doubt it since you griped about the rules for the first couple of years you were here.. We literally had to beat them into you all the while having to hear 20-30 protest shouts per day from you about things that didn't break the rules.

Lets see... Train pulling, killing some one every 10 minutes, being killed in the gate by PC and being rezzed by your team mate, then following them inside the city, altho not all spelled out word for word in the rules, after much debate were found to be against the spirit of the rules. Since the person writing them didnt write them in legaleze, there was much discussion in the forums about it and was finally put down by the statements that said - you all know what the rules mean. bending the meaning to suit your situation at the time is not going to fly. And if you are going to personally attack me again- dont try to hide behind one of my statements- just come out and do it.

Uh...first of all Whisper =/= Wooldor, so I'm not sure where that was coming from...
And secondly I'm fairly certain that anyone on-server who was around when you first joined us will agree that you dominated the shouts for quite some time. Even DMs joke about it when you are killed in PvP and they're around. "How long till Kermit comments" and the like. I don't see it as a personal attack more than a given fact. You like to complain, for whatever reason. I can't find a quotation but I'm fairly certain you've attested to that fact yourself at one point or another..
BUT GETTING BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND AND NOT DETRACTING FROM THE ACTUAL TOPIC (Seriously guys, do you -know- what a Personal Message is? Stop making these forums your personal battlefield or at least do so while posting constructively afterwards, like so)
If the world was upside down and there was no GvM, I'm not entirely sure I would even be playing NWN. GvM was my first server, and other than dabbling in BoW and a few other servers, I have never really left. I have learned everything I know about building and the game from the people on this server(which makes me chuckle when people say that noobs to the server have no shot...I was as noob as one can be when I joined here 3 or so years ago)
The people of GvM are the ones that have kept me here, come and go as they might. Its unfortunate that I find myself coming here less and less because the whining and complaining has begun to disenchant the server for me. Hopefully a wipe happens and we lose you nay-sayers. And no, I'm not afraid to come out and say I would not be sorry to see some of you go.
Edit: Eh, maybe that last statement was a tad harsh, but not enough for me to remove it entirely. There is truth behind it.

Key phrase KK- USED TO- I had to go thru a bit of a stupid phase before I got it. That's changed.
And to compare yourself to a newb now doesnt work. When you got here, the bar wasnt as high as it is currently. You grew with the server. Anyone new has a steeper curve to climb. Which is why I dont get the people who want to keep hidden where to locate certain items. Or wont give info on what it takes to beat one area or another. It makes the learning curve almost too steep. And when was the last time there was a raid on Barad Dur? I cant remember there being one for months. And people are whining about the ceiling in the mino maze?
Im going to ask this question bluntly and without malice. Im going to ask it because its what my underlying question is.
Are you building up GvM for the oldschoolers and making it exclusively for them or is everyone in mind?
It's starting to feel like a club for those who have always been here and not very welcoming to the new guys. Instead of raising the bar across the board, why not leave ceratin things alone and make those raised bars in other ways and new areas?

I remeber that about Kermit. He joined just a little before me, I remember his 50 fricken shout's about one PvP kill... But back on topic it is, that was my only post off-topic here.

My response was not a flame whatsoever.
The topic said and I quote "If I had done more server research before getting on with GvM I probably wouldn't have stayed!"
My point Kermit was that if you had not gotten on gvm1 before you found a different server you would not have tried to push its ideal because early on you weren't totally keen on the server style.
No attack there really, just an observation.
