What is the IP of the server?

If you are happy with the server Grey then maybe we can give out the IP for people to start connecting to themselves, then I can arrange something specific for proper launch event where I can DM connect and do some kind of XP reward thing - probably do that on a weekend day.

The few individual tests were quite promising.
(I for one are playing my ass off already   )
So I'm almost sure that the server will hold when there are only a few of us online
But to be on the safe side ... i'd rather want a big test with a nice bunch of players.
Then we can see if the server can run stable then too ... if thats not the case I need to arrange some extra memory power or even better CPU power if necessary first.

We also can try your option off course ...
But only with the knowledge that its yet still a test!! ... without the automated backups and server reboots (I do them manually atm and I still need to test these backup scripts soon ... hopefully this week ... so the server may become a tiny teenie bit less available this week ... I try to announce the moments of backup script tests on this forum first before I'll do them)

If we do this .... at least I can assure everyone that the toons will be kept safe in the meantime (because I make the backups manually at a regular interval). And if  the tests happened to be bad or even terrible they still will be available after server improvements.

Either way ... I'm not quite confident yet the server will "hold" if we have a lot of players online at the same moment.
So whatever the decision ... a big happening is needed to make a "real start" of the server come true.

So what shall I do?
give the ip right now ... with the knowledge thats its still a test
or wait till we have had a successful "big revival opening"

Indeed. I reinstalled the game yesterday and I also can't wait to play.

I think we are safe to hand out the IP now and make it a test period for all. I should have a little more free time after this week so at least players can login in the mean time and have a play. I can tidy up the vault for full launch if people are creating test toons they don't want.

Once the initial test is done then I can arrange the re-opening event stuff (more than one probably) where I will aim to do some XP rewards etc to kick start the server vault - assuming Turrils HD is dead but probably won't find that out for a while yet.

I will also need to get the deputies setup before full launch and test a couple of things with them.

Grey I will email you about some DM stuff before you hand out the IP.

I know its hard to wait ... but plze just one more day.

I really need to do some last tests and scripting tomorrow  
... so the server is not quite stable until then.

proof why its still in the test phase:
Just an half hour ago I needed to modify the rights of the servervault ... because the toons didnt save any more ...
its now solved ...  
but the problems started because the server startingscripts needed to be changed so that firecracker and I (and possible some deputies lateron) both can start and restart the server now.

So you see ... server is not quite really ready yet
but more ready tomorrow in the afternoon I think (GMT+1) ... I will post the dns (ip) then
and as good as ready after our great "test and reopening" event
Although maybe never ready because we keep wanting some bugfixes and other modifications and improvements of the mod

Unfortunately I didn't had time to figure out how to autostart the gvm-server as another user.

But since everybody knows by now that the server is still somewhat in a test phase and because some of us cant wait no longer

Please keep in mind that the server will probably reboot more often than once every 4 days or so (4 days is the rebooting time we will use in the near future), because I probably need to test some stuff as soon as I have figured out how specific things work in linux.

If you really can an will make a great Gondor versus Mordor dance and cheer for us and put it on youtube or something then you'll have my eternal gratitude too and it will make me just as happy as a dance before my doorstep ... probably even happier ... as I can relax and watch the show better  ... otherwise I'm quite sure I will feel a bit uneasy with a dance being performed at my doorstep ... 

And to be honest Im quite happy already ...
Youre gratitude and probably the gratitude of all the others ... it makes me also very happy to see the joy of others playing GvM again. 
I also like it very much to be in the possession of a mega-huge and probably THE best mod of NWN ever made! .... makes me proud I got the honor of serving the mod to the world.
So if you will honor us with a dance which we all can watch and enjoy ... I will be incredibly honored. 
And keeps you from driving to Utrecht and perform in the rain
