One thing I really have to say ... everybody loves to play again on this server
Great thing to see!
The server is being visited like mad the last days ... today I counted 14 toons playing at the same time, probably lots of dual accounts but still quite impressive if you think how many characters where on the server the last months before "the crash"
Now for something completely different ...
Luckely we still are in testmode ... because its now quite clear the server is not capable to hold the pressure of that many people playing together at the same time.
(BTW thanks all for playing en masse, otherwise we didnt discover this on time)
What ive done so far:
rebooted the server and figured out where the pain lies ... discovered that its not the servers memory, but almost certain the CPU!
Bad luck I run the server on a quite old motherboard (dont want to exchange this one for a new one ... because otherwise I lose too much time reconfiguring and rediscovering all the things I run now on this machine. (new motherboards always come with new problems)
Ive found out that the CPU I have now is almost the cheapest and lowest of the CPU's this motherboard can have. The best this "old one" can have is a CPU INTEL Pentium D 960 3.6Ghz Dual Core 3600Mhz/4M/800 BEST PD socket 775 P46.
(Its almost twice as good as the one I have running now)
So I searched whole internet and finally found this one at eBay and ordered it.
It will be transported from Italy to my place in The Netherlands and will arrive around this wednesday - friday (27-29 nov.)
So I think the server will be down for at least 1 or 2 hours or so on Saturday 30 November 2013.
(Dunno at what time yet)
Now an appeal to everyone:
This old (but better) CPU thing (including thermal pasta I found somewhere else) did cost me exactly 69 euros
Is it possible that there are volunteers who will pay for this upgrade with me together?
I'll need at least 10 volunteers because then those only have to pay me 5 euro each ... (the rest I'll pay).
Hope you guyz will help me out in this one
I'll keep you all posted on "the upgrade story"
